Willard Signs On For Another Year Of Basketball In Japan
Thursday, August 10, 2017
2007 Riggs graduate Sam Willard has agreed to terms to play another season of professional basketball overseas. The 6'9" Willard will once again be suiting up for the Toyama Grouses. This will be the sixth year playing in Japan for Willard. He didn't start with his current team, and said he's glad now that he's found a home.
Willard said that after playing in high school in South Dakota, and after that, four years at Pacific University in California, and one year for Ventspill in Latvia, the international game has some different rules that make it more competitive.
Willard said he's hoping to stay healthy for another year, and looks forward to having his wife--former Pierre athlete Morgan McLain, along with new baby Mia Jean, join him in Toyama in a few months.
