Sully Buttes Earns Split On The Road
Friday, February 17, 2017
The Sully Buttes Charger girls kept up with what works well for them Thursday night in Faulkton, and as a result cruised to a 77-28 victory over the Trojans in game one of a doubleheader. The Charger girls jumped out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter, and held Faulkton to single digit points in each quarter, before closing out the game and regular season. The Charger girls are now 19-1 on the season. Sully Buttes was led in scoring by Chloe Lamb--finishing with 27 points--and fellow senior Racquel Wientjes added twenty three.
Next up for the Charger girls is post season play, beginning next Tuesday, where the Chargers will open at home to face the winner of a playoff of the fourth and fifth seeds Monday night.
The Charger boys didn't have things end the way they wanted to in the second game, allowing Faulkton's Tyler Ogle hit a jump shot from the left high post with 1.1 seconds left that gave the Trojans a thrilling 48-47 win over the Chargers, who let a sixteen point lead slip away in the second half. Sully Buttes led going into the fourth quarter by the score of 40-28, but let the Trojans pressure them into turnovers, and hurried shots, and got outscored 20-7 in the final stanza. Sully Buttes' top scorer was Clay Feller--finishing with 17 points, while Deven Kleven added fifteen. The Charger boys record now slips to 14-4, with two games left in the regular season--Saturday in Warner against third ranked Langford, and next Friday at home against Eureka Bowdle.
