Pierre Man Claims 50K Powerball Prize
Thursday, April 20, 2017
A Pierre man has claimed 50,000 dollars after purchasing a winning Powerball ticket from last week’s drawing.
The Powerball ticket sold in Pierre was worth $50,000 following the Wednesday April 12th drawing. The ticket holder matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball to pick up the game's third prize.
Lottery Spokesperson Kelly Thompson says the prize was claimed this Wednesday afternoon at the Pierre lottery office by Chris Classen of Pierre. Classen purchased his winning ticket at Cowboy Country Store on North Euclid in Pierre. The store will get a $1,000 bonus for the sale.
Thompson says on a side note, Classen didn’t know he had the winning ticket until he came to the lottery office. He says that he checked the ticket at a local retailer and got the message that it needed to be claimed at a Lottery office which meant it was worth over 100 dollars.
Thompson adds that “when our validation clerk told him how much he’d won, he was pretty thrilled.”
The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball are 1 in 913,129. Powerball is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
