Lady Govs And Govs Get State Tournament Under Way Today

Today the AA boys and girls state basketball tournament will get under way in Rapid City. The Lady Govs will get things started as they will the Harrisburg Tigers at 2 pm CT.

The Lady Govs are the eight seed with a 10-13 record coming into this state tournament and the Tigers are 21-1 and are the number one seed. The Lady Govs were able to win the region 2AA championship game to get into the state tournament over Douglas 91-46. Harrisburg comes in winners of their last 21 games and won their district championship over Brandon Valley 50-44. These two teams played each other twice this season as the first time they played was February 4th in Pierre and the Lady Govs would lose 60-59. The second time was in Harrisburg and the Lady Govs would lose that one 63-54.

The Pierre Govs boy’s basketball team will be the night cap as they will play at 8 pm CT taking on Rapid City Stevens. The Govs come into this state tournament as the number six seed and are 12-10. Rapid City Stevens come into this tournament with a 16-5 record and are the number three seed. The Govs were able to win their district championship to get into the state tournament in an exciting game with Huron with the final score of 56-52. Rapid City Stevens got in with a district championship win over Sturgis Brown 44-42. These two teams have played each other this season back on February 14th as Stevens was able to win that game 60-44 in Rapid City.
