Historic marker to be refurbished
Friday, August 8, 2014
A historic marker that tells the story of the Hughes County Courthouse is receiving a makeover.
The marker has been placed along the sidewalk leading to the courthouse’s front steps. Weather, and especially water from the lawn sprinklers, has taken a toll on the marker, leaving stains.
County manager Kevin Hipple says the Pierre-Fort Pierre Historic Preservation Commission has volunteered to clean the marker. He says when repaired, the marker also will be placed in a new location – closer to the building.
There is no word when the marker will be reinstalled.
