Thursday, May 18, 2017
A Fort Pierre man will serve 12 days in jail after assaulting his neighbor.
According to Stanley County States Attorney Thomas P. Maher, 22 year old Christopher Michael Bonhorst appeared before Magistrate Judge Leo Disburg Tuesday in Stanley County Court.
Bonhorst was convicted of Simple Assault, in connection to a May 4th assault. The matter involved a dispute with a neighbor over lawn lights disturbed by the victim’s children and the incident led to Bonhorst assaulting his neighbor. Maher says Bonhorst brandished a knife, the victim struck Bonhorst, and Bonhorst made threats of returning with a gun and shooting. By plea agreement, the charge of Aggravated Assault was reduced to Simple Assault.
After consideration of the matter, Disburg convicted Bonhorst to 365 days in jail, credit for 2 days served, with all but 12 days suspended, on conditions that Bonhorst successfully complete 12 months of probation, with no new law violations, pay $450 fine and costs, that he obtain an anger control evaluation and complete any recommended treatment, and write apology to the victim.
