Fort Pierre Looking To Clean Up Dilapidated Houses

The Fort Pierre City Council Monday night authorized a “intent to apply” application for a community development grant titled “Bulldoze, Build, and Beautify.”
Through the program, towns and counties in South Dakota will be able to get financial assistance from the state to demolish run down and abandoned houses and buildings.
The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) has introduced the program. GOED Deputy Commissioner Aaron Scheibe says the grant program is intended to meet two big objectives a lot of communities have across the state…

Scheibe adds that the grant funding, if awarded, would not only clear off the dilapidated houses, but assist in making room for new housing…

One million dollars has been set aside by GOED for the grant program.
Fort Pierre Development Corporation Executive Director Dave Bonde says that the goal of this grant opportunity is to “get more low-income housing in Fort Pierre.”
