Final Days of Summer bash planned
Friday, August 8, 2014
With the help of Charlie Brown, volunteers and different organizations, local youth Tuesday get a chance to enjoy a final summertime bash before school starts.
The Pierre Elks has organized “It’s a Short Summer Charlie Brown” Back to School Bash. The event also is being sponsored by the South Dakota Discovery Center, Central Divers and Maverick’s Rentals.
Steve Wegman of the Pierre Elks says the event will include activities such as kayaking, canoing, games and more. Wegman says the day will include fun both on land and water.
It is a free event for kids kindergarten through high school. Wegman says this is a chance for children to learn how to use kayaks and canoes. He says many young people don’t realize how much fun they can be.
But there is more than just kayaks and canoes. Wegman says there will be games such as free fort building and more. For those who pass “a test” there also will be root beer floats.
The event runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday at the South Dakota Discovery Center.
More information and a permission slip can be found by at http://www.sd-discovery.org/. Groups of 10 or more are asked to call the Discovery Center by the end of today.
