Post 8 Wins Region Championship

The Post 8 baseball team was finally able to do it on Friday afternoon and that was winning the Region 3A Tournament Championship. Pierre was able to defeat Mitchell in a tight game 10-9.

Mitchell would take the early lead 3-0 after the first and it would stay that way till Post 8 was able to put three of their own on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Mitchell would regain the lead in the fifth when they would score two more runs. Post 8 would respond again in the bottom of the sixth with two more as they tied it back up. Mitchell would score three runs in the top of the seventh and it looked like they were in the driver’s seat to win. Post 8 would tie it up in bottom of the eighth but Mitchell would score a run in the top of the ninth to have a one run lead going to the bottom of the ninth.

Kyle Stover would lead off getting walked and representing the tying run. Conner Gerber and Brad Dean would get out so Post 8 was down to their final out when Michel Lusk would come to the plate. He would get a single scoring Stover and Spencer Sarringar would also get a hit that advanced the runners. Garrett Stout picked up an infield single and the bases were loaded for Joe King. King would hammer a ball to deep left field that went over the left fielder head that would score the winning run.

Peyton Zabel started the game he went six innings, gave up five runs, eight hits, struck out seven and walked one. Jared Miller from Mitchell started the game he went six innings, gave up five runs, eight hits and struck out three. Sarringar would take the win going one inning, surrendered one run, one hit, struck out one and walked one.

Post 8 will start the state tournament on Wednesday as they will take on Sioux Falls West at 4 pm MT/5 pm CT. You’ll be able to hear all of Post 8’s state tournament games right here on Today’s KCCR.

Pierre Rattlers Have Good Weekend

The Pierre Rattlers went 3 - 0 over the weekend when the defeated Redfield on Friday night 8-2 and the Rapid City Reds on Saturday in a double-header, 10-2 and 22-2.

Jordan Heckenlaible and Cooper Walton led the Rattler hitting with two hits each against Redfield while Will Ellwanger and Nick Rabern combined pitching efforts allowing only 2 runs on 3 hits. In the first game vs. Rapid City, Cooper Walton threw 6 innings striking out 9 to record the win, with Harry Decker closing the game with 3 quick outs in the 7th inning. Tyler Kreckelberg led the Rattlers with 3 hits. Jordan LaBrie, Brian Graves and Will Ellwanger added 2 hits each, with Ellwanger hitting a 2-run home run in the 4th inning.

The Rattlers made short work in the 2nd game going only 5 innings. Leading the hitting attack was Brian Graves with 4 hits (3 RBI's), Jordan LaBrie with 3 hits (4 RBI's) and Tyson Lindekugel with 2 hits (including a 3-run homerun in the 5th inning.

The Rattlers regular season has ended but they will be hosting the first round of their State Tournament in 2 weeks at Hyde Stadium.

Pierre U14 Preparing For Region Tournament

The Pierre U 14 baseball team had a busy last two weeks of their regular season as they went 4-0 in an Aberdeen Tournament, 2-2 in the Sioux Falls Summer Classic, and 3-3 in double headers against Sioux Falls West, Brandon Valley and Huron.

They ended their regular season with a 21 - 16 record and have earned a top seed in their regional tournament. The U 14's will be hosting their regional tournament this week (July 25th - 27th) at Hyde Stadium starting Tuesday evening with two games featuring Brookings vs. Aberdeen and Mitchell vs. Huron.

Pierre and Watertown will play the winners of the Tuesday evening games starting Wednesday morning around 10:00 A.M. with the Pierre game. Pierre's region will send qualifiers to the state tournament in Brookings next week.

Post 8 Is State Tournament Bound And Will Play In Region Championship Today

Post 8 has done it, they will be returning to the state tournament and the region tournament championship after a 10-6 victory over Rapid City Post 320.

Pierre got out to a huge lead scoring six runs in the first to take a 6-0 lead going to the second inning. 320 would start to claw their way back in it scoring two runs in the second and two runs in the third to pull within two. Post 8 would respond with three runs of their own and take a commanding lead and keep it the rest of the game.

Garrett Stout started and earned the win going six innings, allowed five runs, 11 hits, struck out three and walked one. Austin Hoss would come in for relief going two and two-thirds innings also Peyton Zabel came in to face the final batter of the night. Seth Brewer for Post 320 would take the loss going three and two thirds innings, allowed eight runs, four hits and struck out four. Zabel and Joe King had good days at the plate each collecting multiple hits, Zabel had three runs batted in and went 3 for 5 on the day.

With the win Post 8 will go to the region championship game today against host Mitchell. Mitchell was able to defeat Rapid City Post 320 in the night cap last night 9-6. It will be a day one rematch between Pierre and Mitchell as Post 8 won that game 10-8. The game will start at 1 pm it is double elimination, so if Post 8 wins the game at 1 pm the tournament is over if they lose they will have to play again at 4 pm. Post 8 U14 Picks Up Two Wins Over Huron

The Post 8 U14 team was in action last night as they took on Huron for a double header. Post 8 would win the first game 7-3 and the second game 13-3.

Pierre had two big innings in game one that brought them home the win they scored three in the fourth and three in the seventh. Isaac Polak earned the win going six innings, allowed three runs, six hits, struck out three and walked one. Post 8 was able to get 10 hits in game one.

In game two Post 8 would dominate this one winning 13-3. Huron would take an early 1-0 lead but that didn’t last long as Pierre would take the lead for good with three runs in the second and five runs in the third. Bennett Dean would earn the win going three innings, gave up two runs, two hits and struck out three.

The U14 team will now prepare for the region tournament at Hyde Stadium coming up next week. Post 8 finishes the year with a 21-16 record.

Local Golfers Compete In Watertown

The South Dakota Golf Associations Junior Summer Golf Tour made a stop in Watertown on Tuesday.

Several Pierre golfers would compete in the tournament in the girls 16-18 age division Hallie Gronlund shot a 91 and finished sixth. Annabelle Simpson would fire a 95 to finish eighth.

Carter Kast of Ft. Pierre competed in the 14-16 age division he would go on to finish third with a round of 88 and Grady Kludt finished eighth in the same division shooting a 91.

In the boys 11 and under division Luke Olson had a nine hole round of 48, which placed him sixth. Nicklaus Bothum shot a 52 that had him finish ninth.

Post Game Survives Late Comeback From Mitchell

What a start it was last night for the Post 8 baseball team in the Region Tournament in Mitchell. Post 8 would take on Mitchell and hold on to a 10-8 victory.

Pierre had a 9-3 lead going into the top of the eighth inning when Mitchell would go on a run and score five runs to pull within one run. Post 8 would come to bat in the bottom of the eighth when Garett Stout would get walked. He advanced to second and third on two pass balls when Joe King would hit a sacrifice fly to left field that led to Stout tagging up and scoring for Post 8 to take a two run lead to the bottom of the ninth.

Maguire Raske would get the start and the win going seven innings, gave up five runs, five hits and struck out two. Spencer Sarringar would throw one and one-third innings as he recorded the last four outs to help Pierre to victory. Baley Miller for Mitchell takes the loss going four innings, gave up six runs, seven hits and struck out one. Post 8 was seeing the ball well at the plate as they had 13 hits in the game. Sarringar, Connor Gerber, Michael Lusk and Joe King all were able to get multiple hits.

Post 8 is now one victory away from playing in the championship game tomorrow and getting back to the state tournament. Today they will play Rapid City Post 320 who Pierre is 1-2 against this year. They loss in Rapid back on June 6th 10-0 and 4-1 but beat 320 in their last home game of the season back on July 5th in a rain shortened nine inning game 3-2.

The game today will start at 4 pm and if Post 8 wins they are in the championship game on Friday and if they lose they will play either Mitchell or Sturgis at 7 pm. You’ll be able to hear today’s games right here on Today’s KCCR.

Post 8 Junior Legion Eliminated On First Day Of Region Tournament

The Post 8 Junior Legion team saw their season come to an end in the Region 3A tournament, which is being held at Hyde Stadium.

Post 8 struggled in the first game as they loss to Rapid City Post 22 Expos 18-1. They would face an elimination game taking on Rapid City Post 320 Shooting Stars and lose that back and forth affair 11-9.

The Junior Legion teams final record on the season goes to 14-20. The tournament will continue on today from Hyde Stadium with three more games and the championship will be held tomorrow.

Post 8 Starts Region Tournament Tonight

The Post 8 baseball team will be in action today as they head to Mitchell for the Region Tournament. Post 8 will take on Mitchell game will start at 7 pm. The first game of the day will be between Rapid City Post 320 and Sturgis that will start at 4 pm.

Post 8 and Mitchell are very familiar with each other this season as they have played each other four times. Post 8 won the first two games in Mitchell back on June 4th, 4-1 and 8-4. Then Post 8 welcomed Mitchell to Hyde Stadium back on June 23rd and Post 8 went 1-1, they loss the first game 13-7 and won the second 8-7.

Pierre finished the regular season with a 28-15 overall record. You’ll be able to hear this game and all the games that Post 8 plays in the Region Tournament right here on Today’s KCCR.

PST Getting Ready For State Meets

The Pierre Swim Team’s long course season is starting to come to an end. PST had team member at three meets during the month of July so far. The State B Championship in Yankton and the State A Championship in Aberdeen are still remaining.

The SFST Independence Invite was held on July 7-9 in Sioux Falls. Five swimmers from PST went to the three day event. 21 swimmers would compete in Huron on July 14-16. Presley Frost won the girls six and under champion placing first in all of her races.The girls 12 and under 200 freestyle team placed second with a time of 2:22.54.

The State B Championship in Yankton, July 21-23 PST will send Kyleigh Molseed and Jaycee Bauer. The State A Championship, which will be in Aberdeen on July 28-30. PST will have 15 swimmers there to compete.
